My Top 5 Books of 2011

This week's YA Highway Road Trip Wednesday takes a look back at the awesome reads of 2011 and asks for your top five books of the year.  There were so many great books this year it's hard to choose. But here are my favorites:

1. Divergent by Veronica Roth (voted Goodreads favorite book of 2011 and best YA sci fi/fantasy! )
2. Across the Universe by Beth Revis (can't wait to read the sequel next month)
3. Delirium by Lauren Oliver
4. Crossed by Ally Condie (my very first ARC, courtesy of mundie moms!)
5. Hereafter by Tara Hudson

For me, the exploration of dystopian society and rebellion against oppression, the adventure of a journey through space, and the haunting beauty of paranormal romance made these my top choices.  Each of these books are part of a series, which I also love.  So, what are your picks for the top 5 books of 2011?

  4. When Goodreads picked DIVERGENT, I was gratified that my sense of what makes a good novel wasn't completely out-of-touch with the rest of the world! Definitely in my top five. I need to do more YA reading next year, and lists like these will prove to be very helpful.

  5. I confess Matched didn't do it for me, though I finished it, so I don't think I'll be picking up Crossed any time soon.
    Thanks for sharing!

  6. I've read more books this year than any other, ever since getting my hands on a Kindle 3. Ironically though, most were books written many years ago, sci-fi classics by Philip K. Dick mostly. I did read The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore, which was okay, I guess. I'm currently reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King, so the final verdict isn't out on that one yet.

  8. I've heard lots of good things about "Across the Universe," I'm looking forward to snagging a copy for myself. Hope to see more sci-fi YA this year!

  9. Across the Universe was on my list, and Delirium was an honorable mention. I haven't read Divergent yet, but I just bought it, so I should be reading it soon!

  10. I have not read any of those books yet (I´m waaaayyy behind in the dystopia category) but they´re all on my TBR list :-)

  11. Thanks, Alison! I think DIVERGENT made the top five for a lot of people this year =)

Colin, it's always great to get that kind of confirmation, isn't it? I've also found these lists really helpful. It's been a great way to find (or reinforce) my to-read list.

Juliana, everyone's got different tastes in reading. And that's awesome! Happy New Year, and happy reading =)

Michael, that's great! I love my Kindle, and it's been great for getting more reading done (mostly via text to speech in the car). That Stephen King book you mentioned is one I hadn't heard about but will have to check out.

Hope you enjoy Delirium, Crystal! I'm really looking forward to the sequel.

Amen to that, Athena! Sci-fi is awesome. Hope you enjoy Across the Universe, and the sequel if and when you read it.

Stephanie, Across the Universe and Divergent were by far my favorites of 2011. I also loved Before I Fall, which I read last spring but didn't include because it's a 2010 book.

commutinggirl, I think you'll really enjoy these reads. There are some great ones, especially the dystopian ones.
